The Mount Macedon & District Horticulture Society
The Garden Lovers’ Fair is put on by the generous input of volunteers within the Mount Macedon & District Horticultural Society.
The purpose of the Mt Macedon & District Horticulture Society (the MMDHS) is to promote horticulture through:
EDUCATION – speakers, lecture series, workshops, garden visits and a library
SOCIAL – events for the members and the community
CULTURAL – preserving the horticultural history of the Macedon Ranges and its gardens
The MMDHS began in 1922 and is one of the oldest garden clubs in Victoria. It began by opening gardens on Mt Macedon to the public and it was the first garden club to do so.
Over the years, the MMDHS has assisted a number of local organisations including the CFA, BlazeAid, Macedon Ranges Health and the Gisborne and Macedon Historical Society which began as a subcommittee of the MMDHS. The MMDHS assisted the Macedon Ranges Shire Council select suitable street trees and is consulting with the Council on a policy for verge gardens.
There are approximately 170 members and we hold a monthly meeting with a guest speaker. The topics of speaker evenings are horticulturally related and include gardening in general, rare and unusual plants, design ideas and gardening tools.
